Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in Teenage Girls
We know how to help your daughter with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, an anxiety disorder characterized by unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas and sensations.
Her endless cycle of unwanted thoughts (obsessions) leads to attempts to neutralize them by engaging in compulsive activities. Even though she will know that the thoughts or behaviors are excessive, she will get only temporary relief by performing the compulsive behaviors
This can be more anxiety-producing, with fear of dirt, germs, illness, mistakes, need for symmetry or exactness, unwanted impulse to harm someone, unacceptable sexual or religious thoughts. Even a fear of being embarrassed.
Common compulsions are then seen in excessively ritualistic behavior, like repeated counting or specific words/phrases, repetition of routine activities (hand washing, in/out of a doorway, turning off the stove), hoarding (especially items with no apparent value), eating in very specific order, refusal to shake hands.
Cognitive behavior therapy is most efficient, often in conjunction with medication, in helping her confront her fears and anxieties in healthy ways. Anti-depressants (particularly ones that interact with the brain’s serotonin production) may also be prescribed and be helpful in relieving symptoms of OCD. *Note: while sometimes used interchangeably, OCD is not to be confused with OCPD, or Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. An OCD sufferer has unwanted thoughts and knows they are senseless, while an OCPD sufferer believes her thinking to be correct and natural.
We Provide A Balanced Approach
It is most important to us to help your teen with her Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Along with her academic work (we offer a fully accredited high school diploma), we think it is also very important for her life to be well balanced.
To that end, we provide many activities, such as horseback riding, volleyball, swimming, caring for farm animals, wilderness outings, uplifting movies and more. Your daughter will learn to sing in our choir and to speak publicly. Our school offers a well-balanced therapeutic program designed to help her get back on track spiritually, behaviorally and academically.
Typical boarding schools tend to expel misbehaving girls but at Wings of Faith, we welcome them and work with them to change their behaviors.
Wings of Faith is an affordable conservative Christian boarding school, designed for pre-teen and teenage girls who are struggling with bad behavior and rebellion. The Academy provides behavioral correction with an emphasis on Christian values, set in a comfortable residential ranch setting.
Our methods have been turning teen girls around for over 20 years. Our school is a member of the Missouri Association of Christian Child Care Agencies (MACCCA).
